Zeon invests in Coreshell for its nano-layer coating material

Zeon Corporation, a Tokyo-based battery materials manufacturer, has invested in Coreshell Technologies, Inc., a U.S. startup specializing in battery technology for the electric vehicle industry.

Coreshell has developed a nano-layer coating material applied to the surface of positive and negative electrodes in contact with the electrolyte. This innovative technology enhances both the capacity and heat resistance of lithium-ion batteries, improving their safety. The application process of the coating material can be integrated into the current manufacturing process without significant modifications, expected to reduce costs.

The collaboration will see Zeon’s accumulated electrode binder technology combined with Coreshell’s technology. This synergy is anticipated to create new value in the battery technology sector. Zeon will propose electrode designs suitable for Coreshell’s coating materials and suggest improvements for enhancing battery functionality, leveraging its evaluation and analysis technologies for lithium-ion batteries.
