Wrightbus will deliver 80 electric buses to Abellio in the UK

Wrightbus has secured additional orders for zero-emission buses from transport operator Abellio, a part of the Transport UK Group. The new orders include 80 electric buses, comprising 24 single-deck GB Kite Electroliners and 56 StreetDeck Electroliners. These fully electric vehicles (EVs) will be introduced in London in 2024 and will be operated by Abellio on behalf of Transport for London.

The buses will be manufactured at Wrightbus’s headquarters in Ballymena, Northern Ireland.

The 2024 Kites are equipped with several safety features to comply with Transport for London’s bus safety standards, including front and nearside blind spot warnings, tire pressure monitoring system, automated emergency braking system, and dynamic stability test. This deal increases Abellio’s total order of StreetDeck Electroliners from Wrightbus to over 100.

The bus interiors, designed in collaboration with Abellio, feature Lazzerini high back seats, a wood-effect floor, USB chargers, and mobile phone holders in the seats, and a larger wheelchair and buggy area.

The StreetDeck Electroliner has been assessed at UTAC using the ZEMO-accredited Ultra Low Emission Bus (ULEB) test, achieving a result of 0.69 kWh/km. They mentioned this is approximately half the energy consumed by its closest BEV double-deck UK rival.
