Wrightbus launches 21 electric buses in Oxford, UK

Wrightbus, a Northern Ireland-based manufacturer, has launched a fleet of 21 zero-emission electric buses in Oxford. The StreetDeck Electroliners, branded in partnership with Oxford Brookes University, are part of the city’s initiative to achieve net zero by 2040.
The new BROOKESbus fleet, owned and operated by Oxford Bus Company, will replace the existing diesel buses, potentially preventing up to 850 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year. The buses can travel up to 300 miles on a full charge and are expected to be in service by the end of the year.
The energy used to charge the buses will come from renewable sources, and a full charge takes approximately three and a half hours. To ensure the safety of pedestrians and cyclists, the buses will emit an artificial sound while traveling at low speeds, as they are much quieter than diesel buses.
