WEVO’s new potting compounds and gap fillers for EV inverters

WEVO-CHEMIE GmbH, a chemical manufacturer, has introduced new products designed for efficient thermal management in electric vehicle inverters, which require effective cooling systems to maintain optimal performance.
WEVO’s newly developed potting compounds and gap fillers are designed to facilitate heat removal and ensure the mechanical stability of the inverter components. These materials, based on epoxy resin and silicone, offer protection against electrochemical corrosion and provide reliable electrical insulation due to their low ion content.
High temperatures are common in electric vehicle inverters during power transformation, such as when driving the motor or recharging the battery. WEVO’s thermally conductive potting compounds and gap fillers are designed to protect these sensitive components, prevent overheating, and slow down the aging process.
WEVO has optimized the flow properties of its epoxy resin and silicone potting compounds to fill even the smallest gaps, despite the high thermal conductivity and high filler content of the compounds. The materials are resistant to temperatures ranging from -40°C to +180°C, which are common in inverters during continuous use. They can withstand thermal shocks, thermal cycles, and damp-heat storage without risk of cracking.
The potting compounds have been designed to dampen mechanical stresses such as impacts, shocks, and vibrations. If needed, the epoxy resin products can be used to increase a component’s mechanical stability.
WEVO’s development engineers have also improved the adhesion of silicones to metals such as aluminum. The potting compounds can be used in the area around the component housing or for components such as coils or printed circuit boards.
If full encapsulation of the inverter is not possible or desirable, a local connection can be established to the component housing or the cooling system using WEVO’s gap fillers. These silicone-based materials offer optimized stability and good applicability as beads.
WEVO’s potting compounds and gap fillers, with their customizable properties, are also suitable for use in electronic control units (ECUs) or in DC/DC converters.
