Webasto launches Field Data Monitoring telemetry service for EV batteries

• Webasto introduces Field Data Monitoring, a telemetry service for battery systems in electric vehicles.

Webast has launched Field Data Monitoring. This telemetry service for its Standard Battery System is designed to aid vehicle manufacturers in acquiring diagnostic data for traction batteries, carry out software updates or remote maintenance, and avail extended warranty services.

A compact hardware module, which can be retrofitted, is central to the system. It sends telemetry data collected from operating vehicles to the Webasto Cloud Backend regularly. This gives vehicle manufacturers real-time performance data and battery condition.

Field Data Monitoring offers several new convenience features. These include access to extensive diagnostic data, over-the-air software updates from Webasto, and remote maintenance options facilitated by trained specialists. The service kit aims to save time, costs, and effort that would otherwise be spent on in-person meetings or maintenance appointments.

Webasto uses the gathered telemetry data to regularly compare performance parameters for the Standard Battery System as agreed upon with the customer. If vehicles are operated correctly, Guarantee Plus (G+), a new warranty offer, becomes applicable. G+ offers maximum security through an extended warranty package that covers vehicle operation or potential subsequent costs.

Webasto plans to further extend Field Data Monitoring’s range of functions. Planned updates will provide direct access to analysis data or performance optimizations for the Standard Battery System. Future users can anticipate additional benefits through services such as predictive maintenance, error notifications, suggestions for daily vehicle operation optimization, and various location services like geofencing or route optimization.
