Scout Motors breaks ground on new $2 billion plant in South Carolina

Scout Motors, an all-electric vehicle manufacturer under the Volkswagen Group, has initiated construction on its new assembly plant in Blythewood, S.C.
The company’s focus is on the production of off-road capable pickup trucks and SUVs, drawing inspiration from the International Harvester Scout that was produced from 1960 to 1980. The $2 billion electric vehicle plant will cover 1,600 acres and is expected to create 4,000 jobs in the area. The facility will serve as the production site for Scout’s next-generation trucks and rugged SUVs.
The new production facility will consist of three key components: an assembly line, paint shop, and body shop. It is designed to produce more than 200,000 Scout vehicles annually. The company is also committed to sustainability and carbon neutrality, with plans to reduce emissions through gas exhaust and noise, decrease water consumption, and utilize heat pumps and LED lighting. The plant is expected to commence production by the end of 2026.
