Schaeffler’s new powertrain tech for commercial EVs & eVTOLs at CES 2024

At CES 2024, Schaeffler showcased its family of electric powertrain systems and components that optimize battery capacity for medium and heavy-duty electric trucks and eVTOLs.

Medium/Heavy duty electric powertrains:Schaeffler showed their optimally designed electric axles that reduce weight and extend driving range, electric motors featuring advanced cooling concepts, magnet-free options, innovative winding architectures, and an e-drive system that maximizes power density, safety, and air-cooling options.

eVTOL motors:The e-drive system was displayed in FlyNow Aviation GmbH’s eVTOL (electric Vertical Take-off and Landing) that can handle payloads up to 200 kg (440 lbs.), reduces CO2 emissions, and lowers environmental impact using two separate electric motors.

New Battery Tech:Schaeffler also showcased a battery management system that incorporates intelligent algorithms supported by the deep knowledge acquired by Schaeffler’s battery cell team. Battery packs were on display as part of Schaeffler’s medium-duty truck demonstrator. This exhibit demonstrates the company’s battery management system and stamping capabilities in developing battery packs that optimize efficiency and space.

Actuators:Schaeffler is also developing a range of mechatronics applications. The company’s Ride Height Actuator (RHA) marks significant advancements in actuator technologies and optimizes powertrain performance for every driving scenario.

Off-Highway tech:Additionally, Schaeffler demonstrated its CASM-series electromechanical actuator for agricultural and construction equipment. The CASM series delivers an energy-efficient alternative to hydraulic cylinders with modular design flexibility.
