Sales launch for Liebherr’s L 507 E battery-electric wheel loader

Liebherr has launched sales for its first battery-electric wheel loader, the L 507 E. Available from Liebherr sales partners in several European countries since October 2023, it combines the features of a Liebherr Stereoloader with a battery-electric drive design developed by Liebherr.

The L 507 E performs comparably to a conventionally powered Liebherr wheel loader of the same size class, but without onsite CO2 emissions. Noise emissions are also minimized, making the wheel loader suitable for applications where noise or exhaust fumes are a concern, such as in urban areas or indoor spaces. The L 507 E utilizes a high-voltage battery system, specifically developed for wheel loader applications, which ensures powerful performance and efficient charging.

The L 507 E can operate for up to eight hours under certain conditions. Liebherr’s modular battery design allows for the installation of a second lithium-ion battery upon customer request, further extending the operating time. Depending on the onboard charging technology and power rating, the battery can be fully charged in approximately one and a half to three hours.

It also features a battery-electric drive that provides full power at all times, enabling dynamic working movements and responsive handling. The wheel loader has a standard final speed of 20 km/h, but an optional “Speeder” version can reach speeds of up to 30 km/h. Energy generated downhill and during braking is fed back into the battery through recuperation.

The loader is based on the conventional Liebherr L 507 Stereo wheel loader and features stereo steering. This combination of articulated steering and steered rear axle results in a minimal turning circle and a reduced articulation angle of 30 degrees, enhancing the stability of the wheel loader. The L 507 E also incorporates Liebherr’s articulated pendulum joint, which compensates for uneven ground and ensures excellent stability.

Finally, it uses the same lift arms as the conventionally powered L 507 Stereo. These arms feature powerful z-bar kinematics, which work safely in fork operation without manual readjustment. The L 507 E’s electro-hydraulic pilot control ensures highly responsive and precise movements of the lift arms. The fully automatic LIKUFIX quick-coupler system is also available, allowing operators to switch between mechanical and hydraulic attachment tools from the cab within seconds.

The operator’s cab of the L 507 E offers excellent visibility due to the extensive use of glass, and is designed for ergonomics and comfort. Various setting options and operation-relevant data, such as the battery’s charge status, can be accessed on the height-adjustable display with a touch function. The steering wheel and seat can be adjusted individually, and the L 507 E can be used intuitively, making it accessible even to less experienced operators.
