Sakuu’s 100% dry process for printing battery electrodes

Sakuu is offering early access to Kavian, a manufacturing solution for printing battery electrodes. This platform allows for the development of next-generation batteries through a completely dry process.

The Kavian platform offers several benefits, including the elimination of all toxic solvents and materials, a reduction in factory floor space requirements by up to 33%, a decrease in utility costs by up to 40%, and an improvement in factory carbon footprints by up to 40%.

Electrodes printed by Kavian have demonstrated equivalent or superior performance to today’s optimized processes, with the added opportunity to customize battery cell chemistry, features, and design. The platform is engineered to be material agnostic, supporting each manufacturer’s unique specifications, performance, and form factor needs. It allows OEMs to customize component dimensions and thickness from five to 200 microns.

The Kavian platform is designed to transform the economics of battery manufacturing equipment and cell production. It aims to localize production, as currently, 66% of the world’s battery cells are manufactured in China. Kavian allows for the use of cleaner energy sources and eliminates the need for solvents and drying mechanisms.

The Kavian platform is now available for go-to-market development opportunities, with expanded availability expected in late 2024, Sakuu was the first company to license its battery technology for producing lithium metal cells.

Sakuu’s CEO, Robert Bagheri, and Sandy Munro, CEO of Munro & Associates, have shared their thoughts on the Kavian platform.“Having experienced Sakuu’s technology firsthand, I am convinced the Kavian platform is revolutionizing battery production,” said Munro. “I am not receiving any payment to endorse the company. I simply see that Sakuu has achieved what others are still striving for. This positions Sakuu uniquely in advancing the field towards solid-state batteries.”

“After seven years of intense research and development, Sakuu has solved fundamental issues plaguing the battery industry,” said Bagheri. “Printing batteries, without solvents, finally gives manufacturers a chance to change how and where this critical industry can thrive. The foundational building-block approach to the Kavian platform is the key to unleashing innovation for next-generation batteries, including solid-state. Sakuu is thrilled to offer early access to joint-development partners.”
