Renesas Partners with EdgeCortix to Streamline AI/ML Development

– Renesas Electronics Corporation announces strategic partnership with EdgeCortix, a company known for its energy efficient AI processing solutions. This partnership aims to streamline AI/ML development across Renesas’ embedded processing portfolio.– EdgeCortix’s innovative solutions promise up to 50x better energy efficiency and 10x better performance compared to conventional GPUs and CPUs. The collaboration will allow Renesas to tap into EdgeCortix’s expertise in key technology areas, enhancing its AI/ML developer experience.

Renesas Electronics Corporation, a top-tier supplier of advanced semiconductor solutions, has formed a strategic alliance with EdgeCortix. Known for its efficient AI processing solutions, EdgeCortix has caught the attention of Renesas with its industry-leading technology. This partnership also includes an investment by Renesas in EdgeCortix’s recent funding round.

EdgeCortix, based in Tokyo, thrives on the concept of creating a fast, low-power AI-centric processor for edge applications. The company’s proprietary software and AI chip products are designed to accelerate AI inference tasks with high energy efficiency and low latency. Its product range includes MERA (a multi-platform compatible compiler software framework), Dynamic Neural Accelerator (a scalable, run-time reconfigurable neural network processor IP), and SAKURA AI (a power-efficient co-processor device). These products offer an integrated solution for real-time edge AI, promising up to 50 times better energy efficiency and ten times better performance than traditional GPUs and CPUs.

Renesas aims to streamline and unify its AI/ML developer experience across its entire MCU and MPU portfolio through this partnership with EdgeCortix. This collaboration will also enable a seamless back-end layer for compilation that supports heterogeneous architectures. Sailesh Chittipeddi, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Renesas’ Embedded Processing, Digital Power and Signal Chain Solutions Group stated, “The combination of our embedded processors and Reality AI Software along with EdgeCortix solutions will enable our customers to seamlessly compile their AI code with support for heterogeneous architectures, reducing their development risk, time and cost.”

This partnership enables Renesas to leverage existing IP and hardware, while gaining access to EdgeCortix’s specialized knowledge in areas such as Apache TVM1, compiler development, and heterogeneous framework design. Sakyasingha Dasgupta, Founder and CEO of EdgeCortix, expressed his delight in expanding their strategic collaboration with Renesas, confident of the benefits that both companies and their customers will reap from this relationship.
