• KEMET, part of the YAGEO Group, has launched the new X7R high voltage VW80808 series automotive grade MLCC.• These MLCCs, compliant with AEC-Q200 and VW80808 specifications, are designed for harsh-environment applications and use flexible termination technology to prevent transfer of board stress to the ceramic body.

KEMET, a YAGEO Group entity and global electronic components supplier, has unveiled the X7R high voltage VW80808 series automotive grade multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCC). Available in case sizes from EIA 0603 to 1210, these MLCCs range from 100pF – 0.1uF and DC voltages from 500V to 1kV. The VW80808 series is designed for applications demanding reliable performance in harsh conditions, whether under the hood or inside the cabin of a vehicle.

These capacitors underscore the importance of robust components for ensuring the safety and functionality of critical automotive subsystems. They adhere to AEC-Q200 and VW80808 specifications. The flexible termination technology used in these devices prevents the transfer of stress from the board to the rigid ceramic body, reducing the risk of flex cracks leading to low IR or short circuit failures.

The capacitors are compliant with VW80808 specifications and AEC–Q200 automotive qualification. They offer superior flex performance with a minimum of 5 mm, DC voltage ratings of 500V, 630V ,1KV, and are Lead (Pb)-Free, RoHS and REACH compliant. They can be applied in direct battery/power circuits, power plane/bus filtering, high voltage heaters, inverters, DC/DC conversions, battery management systems, and power factor correction.

KEMET’s new MLCC series will enhance the performance and reliability of electric vehicle electronics, providing robust solutions for critical subsystems in harsh environments.
