Addressing range anxiety generally results in larger battery capacity. Along with the larger battery, there is a desire for faster charge times. This has been driving a trend toward increasing On Board Charger (OBC) power. While 6.6kW units were common in the past, the expectation is that 11kW and 22kW will dominate going forward. Another element of increasing charging speed is a trend to 800V main battery voltage. Silicon Carbide (SiC) MOSFETs are ideally suited to address these application parameters.
This webinar will explore the benefits of SiC MOSFETs in OBC and off-main-battery DC/DC power conversion units of a BEV. As a wide bandgap material, SiC provides significant advantages over both IGBTs and silicon superjunction MOSFETs.
