New SCM Series Series-Connected Supercapacitor Modules | KYOCERA AVX

– KYOCERA AVX has released the new SCM Series of series-connected supercapacitor modules with high capacitance, low ESR, high efficiency, and excellent pulse power handling capabilities.– These modules can be used alone or with primary or secondary batteries to extend battery life and backup time, and are ideal for use in industries such as automotive, transportation, energy, and telecommunications.

KYOCERA AVX, a global manufacturer of advanced electronic components, introduced the new SCM Series of double-layer, series-connected electrochemical supercapacitor modules. The SCM Series can be used independently or in combination with primary or secondary batteries. They increase battery longevity and backup time while providing instantaneous power pulses. They are especially suited for industrial, energy, telecommunications, automotive, transportation, and medical applications.

The SCM Series exhibits high capacitance, low ESR, high efficiency, high power density, and excellent pulse power handling. It supports active cell balancing and can withstand high current, high vibration, and frequent charge/discharge cycles. The modules operate at temperatures ranging from -40°C to +65°C and have lifetimes up to millions of cycles. They are lead-free compatible, RoHS compliant, and comply with the UL 810A standard for electrochemical capacitors.

Ideal applications include heavy industrial equipment, uninterrupted power supplies, utility grid and micro grid storage and power shaving, energy harvesting, regenerative energy capture, variable speed pitch control, GSM and GPRS wireless communications, automotive vehicles including EVs and HEVs as well as trucks, buses, trains, elevators and portable medical devices.

The initial release includes five part numbers: SCMA63K586SPPB2; SCMA63S586SPPB2; SCMZ1EK507STAB2; SCMZ1EP1F6STAB2; SCMZ85P836STAB2. Each part number is rated differently and has different case specifications, and they are all tested and qualified for life cycle, high-temperature load life, and other specific characteristics.
