New EV Inverter Made with Diamonds, Claims 6x More Compact Than Tesla’s

Diamond Foundry, founded by M.I.T., Stanford, and Princeton engineers, claims their new inverter for high-power applications, the “DF Perseus”, is six times more compact than Tesla 3’s while exceeding its performance and efficiency.

Based on a novel architecture enabled by the unprecedented properties of DF’s single-crystal diamond wafer, specifically both its extreme thermal conductivity and its extreme electrical insulation, the first DF Perseus prototypes were completed and successfully tested in tier-1 automotive OEM laboratories.

Here’s the data side-by-side from their site:Tesla Power Inverter –POWER (KW):250SIC CHIPS: 96VOLUME (L): 28DENSITY (KW/L): 9

DF Perseus Power Inverter –POWER (KW):250SIC CHIPS: 18VOLUME (L): 0.46DENSITY (KW/L): 500

“We believe this new architecture will become standard in electric cars going forward. Its advantages appeared too good to be true to me for a long time but our engineers just built it and I cannot argue with the results.” says Martin Roscheisen, CEO of Diamond Foundry.

Diamond Foundry has received $515,000,000 in funding and are executing on a multi-billion dollar expansion plan for converting greenhouse gas into diamond wafers.
