New Automotive-Qualified SuperCapacitors from Kyocera AVX

– KYOCERA AVX has announced its first automotive-qualified supercapacitors, tested and qualified to the AEC-Q200 standard.– The new SCC Series supercapacitors offer high-reliability performance, very high capacitance, very low ESR, and excellent pulse power handling characteristics.

KYOCERA AVX, a global manufacturer of advanced electronic components, has launched its initial range of automotive-qualified supercapacitors. These supercapacitors are known as cylindrical, electrochemical, double-layer capacitors. The SCC Series supercapacitors are now proven to meet the AEC-Q200 standard. This ensures their reliability under mechanical and electrical conditions typical in automotive applications.

The SCC Series supercapacitors are rugged, deliver reliable performance, and show very high capacitance, very low ESR, and excellent pulse power handling characteristics. They can be used independently or alongside primary or secondary batteries to lengthen backup times and battery life while offering instantaneous pulse power.

The new automotive-qualified supercapacitors are ideal for applications such as electronic mechanical latching, emergency calling, electronic recording, regenerative braking, power, and backup power systems. They comply with UL 810A, RoHS, and REACH requirements.

Mamoon Abedraboh, Global Product Manager – Supercapacitor Products at KYOCERA AVX stated “We’re very proud to introduce our first automotive-qualified supercapacitors. We introduced the first SCC Series supercapacitors in October 2016 and they have proven to deliver high-quality, high-reliability performance, optimal pulse power handling characteristics, and an impressive price-performance ratio in industrial and consumer applications all around the world. So, we’re very excited to offer solutions with those same outstanding characteristics to our automotive customers.”

This advancement could bolster reliability in electric vehicle systems by offering high-performance capacitors that can withstand challenging conditions.
