Nano One adds 4 more battery manufacturing patents in Asia

Nano One® Materials Corp., a company specializing in cathode active materials, has announced four new patents in Asia, bringing their total count to 40 with 55 still pending.
The new patents cover a range of technologies, including the formation of lithium metal oxide cathodes from elemental metal in Japan, battery enhancement using simplified electrolyte and One-Pot cathode in Taiwan, and the simultaneous formation of coating and cathode in a single step in China and Korea.
The Japanese patent, JP 2022-565612, is specific to the formation of lithium metal oxide cathodes from elemental metal using Nano One’s proprietary process which reduces cost, complexity, and greenhouse gas emissions in the supply chain, while eliminating wastewater and large volumes of harmful sulfate by-products.
The Taiwanese patent, TW 110137964, relates to battery enhancements made possible by the cathode formed from the proprietary One-Pot process, which allows for a simplified electrolyte with fewer additives, potentially extending the battery’s lifetime.
The Chinese patent, CN 2019800266858, and the South Korean patent, KR 10-2020-7030886, extend the established patent estate related to the One-Pot process. Specifically, they cover the ability to form a cathode material with a protective coating in a single processing step, a technology particularly important for manganese-rich, high-energy spinels.
Dr. Stephen Campbell, CTO of Nano One, commented, “These four new patents will extend our portfolio to forty, adding value not only for our shareholders but also for our trusted partners, stakeholders and future licensees. Continuous innovation is critical to our strategy and these latest patent issuances showcase the quality and breadth of our technology offering, specifically in Asia where we are nurturing many strategic interests.”
