Middlesbrough Council selects Shell Group subsidiary ubitricity for 160 on-street Electric Vehicle charge points

Middlesbrough Council in the UK has selected ubitricity, a charge point operator, to install and manage up to 160 electric vehicle (EV) charge points in 90 locations across the town.
Ubitricity, a subsidiary of Shell, operates a network of over 7,500 public charge points. This project, the first large-scale public EV charging initiative in the North East of England, is part of a 15-year contract and aims to facilitate EV charging for residents without private driveways.
The charge points, which can be installed in as little as two hours, will be deployed from January 2024. They will be integrated into existing bollards and lampposts across Linthorpe, Newport, Ayresome, and the University area, and will offer charging speeds of up to 5kW. The project is funded by the UK Government’s On-Street Residential Charge point Scheme (ORCS), and Middlesbrough Council will receive a 5% revenue share throughout the contract’s duration.
