Microchip expands partnership with TSMC to strengthen semiconductor manufacturing

Microchip Technology Inc. has announced an expansion of its partnership with TSMC, a semiconductor foundry.
This collaboration will enable a specialized 40 nm manufacturing capacity at Japan Advanced Semiconductor Manufacturing, Inc. (JASM), TSMC’s majority-owned manufacturing subsidiary in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan.
The increased wafer capacity from JASM will bolster Microchip’s ability to serve a wide range of global customers in various markets, including automotive, industrial, and networking applications. The partnership with TSMC and the added capacity at JASM will provide more assurance in the manufacturing landscape, helping to mitigate Microchip’s potential for disrupted supply due to external factors such as changing business conditions and natural disasters.
Michael Finley, Microchip senior vice president of worldwide manufacturing and technology, said, “Microchip’s reputation for providing responsible and reliable supply management is enhanced with this new TSMC manufacturing path. Customers can have confidence when designing our products into their applications and platforms, with the support of resilient and robust manufacturing capabilities.”
