Mercedes-Benz will supply 1,000 battery-electric trucks to Holcim, (The eActros 600)

Mercedes-Benz Trucks has announced Holcim, a building materials manufacturer, will add 1,000 Mercedes-Benz eActros 600 electric trucks to their European fleet.

This move is part of Holcim’s strategy to decarbonize its operations’ logistics and aligns with its goal for 30% of its heavy-duty truck purchases or contracts to be zero-emission by 2030.

The eActros 600, which had its world premiere in October, will be used primarily with silo trailers for the transport of building materials such as cement. The truck’s high battery capacity of over 600 kilowatt hours and a new, efficient electric drive axle developed in-house, allow it to achieve a range of 500 kilometers without intermediate charging. This range can be extended to over 1,000 kilometers per day with intermediate charging during legally prescribed driver breaks.

In addition to CCS charging with up to 400 kW, the eActros 600 will later also enable megawatt charging (MCS). Customers can order a pre-installation for this, and once MCS technology becomes available and standardized across manufacturers, it can be retrofitted for these models of the eActros 600. The batteries can be charged from 20 to 80 percent in about 30 minutes at a suitable charging station with an output of around one megawatt.

The eActros 600 is characterized by a new, puristic design with clear lines and an aerodynamic shape. It is intended to set new standards in profitability for fleet operators, potentially replacing the majority of diesel trucks in the long-haul transport segment over the long term. Mercedes-Benz Trucks plans to start series production by the end of 2024 and will also produce rigid variants of the eActros 600 from the market launch.
