KYMCO unveils electric motorcycle battery swapping, metering, and load balancing technologies

KYMCO announced three new technologies aimed at promoting the widespread adoption of electric motorcycles:

  • The Ionex Battery-as-a-Service Solution for Energy Companies

  • Ionex Battery Metering Unit for EV Manufacturers

  • Ionex Energy Station for Battery-swapping Network Operators

These technologies form the “Ionex Open Consortium”, an EV ecosystem that aims to bring affordable, convenient, and sustainable electric mobility to all.

The Ionex Battery-as-a-Service Solution for Energy Companies features the Ionex Common Battery and Ionex Operating System. The Ionex Common Battery is a versatile removable battery that supports battery swapping, battery charging, and vehicle charging. The cloud-based Ionex Operating System manages every Ionex Common Battery, tracking real-time battery and energy usage, orchestrating autonomous battery-swapping network operation, and intelligently managing each battery charging to extend battery life.

For EV Manufacturers, KYMCO offers the Ionex Battery Metering Unit, Ionex BMU, a standardized electronic module that integrates into any EV design. The Ionex BMU works with the Ionex Common Battery, tracking real-time battery usage. It comes with an Internet of Vehicles (IoV) control interface, Over-The-Air (OTA) firmware updates and financial-grade encrypted data transmission.

For Battery-swapping Network Operators, KYMCO offers the Ionex Energy Station. This cloud-connected battery-swapping station is available in various sizes and configurations. It operates 24/7 with load balancing and power backup under the cloud management of the Ionex Operating System. The Ionex Energy Station offers a simple, fast, and safe battery-swapping experience.

KYMCO envisions a future where Energy Companies provide riders with battery services for electric motorcycles. This service allows riders to receive batteries from energy companies with guaranteed performance and pay only for actual battery usage. KYMCO also anticipates EV Manufacturers introducing electric motorcycles with integrated onboard battery metering that works with the Energy Companies’ battery service. Furthermore, KYMCO foresees Battery-swapping Network Operators deploying battery-swapping stations across the country, eliminating range anxiety.
