Kalmar delivers heavy electric forklifts to Norway’s Norway’s leading rail freight operator

CargoNet, a rail freight handling company in Norway, has introduced the new Kalmar Heavy Electric Forklift to its operations in Oslo, Norway.

The Heavy Electric Forklift, designed for lifting 18–33 tonne loads, operates with zero emissions at source, making it a significant addition to CargoNet’s eco-efficient equipment.

The Heavy Electric Forklift has been well-received by both management and drivers at CargoNet. The forklift’s quiet operation, speed, and reactivity have been highlighted as key benefits, along with the improved working environment due to reduced noise levels.

The transition to green cargo handling involves more than just replacing diesel machines with electric ones. It requires a complete overhaul of operations, including new working methods for drivers. This is where support and training from Kalmar, a long-term partner of CargoNet, come into play.

In addition to the Heavy Electric Forklift, CargoNet also uses a Kalmar Electric Reachstacker.

Hans Ivar Biribakken, Operations Manager at CargoNet’s intermodal site in Oslo, said, “I dare say that this terminal is the most efficient in all of Europe.” He also added, “Kalmar has proven to be far ahead in this development.”

Nattaphol Khamsita, forklift operator at CargoNet, commented on the new equipment, “The forklift is great to drive. It’s quiet and fast. It’s very reactive, and the electric truck makes the working environment a lot better because of the lack of noise.”
