GaN Systems and ACEpower Partner to Propel GaN Adoption in Chinese Electric Vehicle Market

– GaN Systems and ACEpower collaborate to expedite GaN technology adoption in China’s electric vehicle market.– The partnership will focus on topology optimization, advanced integrated power modules, and high-frequency magnetics design to improve electric vehicle efficiency and power density.

GaN Systems and ACEpower have formed a partnership to fast-track the adoption of GaN technology in Chinese electric vehicles. GaN Systems, a global leader in GaN power semiconductors, will use its expertise in EV power electronics along with ACEpower’s high-power system design and manufacturing capabilities. The goal is to accelerate the GaN-based electric vehicle power market in China.

GaN power semiconductors are key for creating compact, lightweight, and efficient high-performance electric vehicles. GaN Systems’ automotive-grade GaN power transistors will be used with ACEpower’s industry knowledge to unlock GaN performance advantages. This collaboration will focus on enhancing electric vehicle efficiency and power density through topology optimization, advanced integrated power modules, and high-frequency magnetics design.

Albert Wang, CEO of ACEpower, stated, “We are delighted to announce our partnership with GaN Systems to accelerate GaN adoption in electric vehicles. Our longstanding relationship with GaN Systems, coupled with their unrivaled expertise in high reliability, automotive-qualified GaN semiconductors—a vital component for electric vehicles—brings great business opportunities in the fast growth Chinese EV market. Together, we are committed to driving innovation that will revolutionize electric vehicles, particularly in efficiency and power density, delivering substantial benefits to the industry.”

The collaboration aims to overcome challenges of larger, inefficient power systems based on conventional silicon power transistors. GaN power transistors offer higher efficiency and power density at faster switching speeds for onboard chargers, DC/DC converters, and traction inverters. This leads to faster charging, extended driving range, and lower overall system costs.

Jim Witham, CEO of GaN Systems, said, “Today’s announcement marks a significant leap in our cooperative efforts with ACEpower to drive GaN adoption in the Chinese electric vehicle market. This collaboration paves the way for disruptive and game-changing advancements in next-generation electric vehicles. Building upon our strong industry relationships with key players such as BMW, Toyota, and Vitesco, GaN Systems and ACEpower are poised to make a substantial impact in accelerating GaN adoption across the electric vehicle platform.”

The shared vision of GaN Systems and ACEpower extends to capturing market value in emerging sectors like data centers and electric vehicles. Future plans include developing high-power density GaN-powered OBCs rated at 6.6kW and 11kW for electric vehicles.

The partnership between GaN Systems and ACEpower will have a significant impact on the EV industry by accelerating the adoption of GaN technology, leading to more efficient and powerful electric vehicles.
