FreeWire’s new charging station with built-in energy storage enables power sharing, blackout charging, and site backup power

FreeWire Technologies, a provider of battery-integrated electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and energy management solutions, has announced the launch of Boost Power Pro, a new charger within the Pro Series line.

The Boost Power Pro leverages built-in energy storage to offer features such as power sharing, blackout charging, and site backup power, aiming to lower operating expenses, increase resilience, and enhance the charging experience for drivers.

By 2030, the United States is projected to have over 26 million EVs on the road, necessitating a significant increase in charging stations and overall energy demand. This comes at a time when the US electric grid has seen a 15% increase in service interruptions and blackouts from 2022 to 2023. The Pro Series technology allows site hosts to quickly deploy public fast charging, strengthen electric infrastructure, and unlock new business and revenue opportunities, all while using less grid power.

The Pro Series, including the flagship Boost Power Pro, features an integrated battery and new bidirectional power flow. This enables ultrafast charging and offers the benefits of backup energy storage systems. Key features include:

– Blackout Charging: This feature allows for uninterrupted ultrafast EV charging during power outages by using the energy stored in the integrated battery.– Site Backup Power: In the event of a utility grid failure, the system automatically uses the energy stored in the integrated battery to provide emergency backup power to the site.– Power Sharing: This feature enables the interconnection of multiple chargers, merging their energy storage capabilities into a large-scale energy storage system.– Flexible Input Power: The Pro Series is designed to be compatible with any pre-existing electrical setup, with input power capable of scaling up to 53 kW.– Simultaneous Charging: The Pro Series enhances this staple feature of FreeWire products. These ports can be customized with either CCS or NACS connectors, distributing power in precise increments.– Grid Services: Site hosts can send energy back to the utility grid during peak demand or critical events under the management of FreeWire.– Energy Management: FreeWire offers features that protect owners from costly charges associated with high energy demand.
