BMW in Munich to produce only electric vehicles after 2027

BMW Group Plant Munich is set to produce the Neue Klasse sedan from 2026 and will exclusively manufacture all-electric models from the end of 2027. This transition will make the Munich plant the first in the BMW Group’s production network to fully convert to E-mobility.

In 2021, the BMW i4 became the first all-electric vehicle to be produced on the same production line as combustion vehicles. Currently, every second vehicle produced at the plant is all-electric.

From 2026, the Neue Klasse production will run parallel to current models at the Munich plant. By the end of 2027, the plant will exclusively manufacture all-electric vehicles, marking the end of combustion engine vehicles 75 years after the launch of the BMW 501 in 1952. Neue Klasse vehicles will also be produced in Debrecen, Hungary, Shenyang, China, and San Luis Potosí, Mexico.

The plant’s transformation is taking place while production continues, with approximately 1,000 cars, including the BMW 3 Series and the BMW i4, rolling off the production line daily.
