Protean Electric powering BEDEO’s e-van retrofits

BEDEO has launched an EV retrofit solution for fleets, enabled by ProteanDrive in-wheel motor (IWM) technology. The solution, known as the RE-100 Range Extender, is part of BEDEO’s Reborn Electric lineup and allows organizations with large fleets of vans to extend the life of their vehicles while transitioning to an electric future.

The RE-100 Range Extender can be fitted to existing diesel vans, making them capable of operating on both electric and diesel power. The vehicle, when fitted with the RE-100, is primarily electric, with a range of 117km, making it suitable for ‘Last Mile’ deliveries. The diesel mode can be used for longer trips, with the ability to switch to electric in low-emission zones and densely populated areas to reduce emissions.

The RE-100 features two in-wheel motors and a 37kWh battery, all designed, engineered, and manufactured by BEDEO. The motors are fitted to the rear axle of the vehicle and are more compact, lighter, efficient, and easier to install than an equivalent e-axle. No modifications to the front or rear suspension are required, ensuring no loss of ground clearance or load space.

BEDEO’s Reborn Electric line is a range of retrofit solutions that includes the RE-100 range extended option and the BE-100, BE-250, and BE-350 full electric options, and they can fit these solutions in a wide range of large commercial vans, including the Peugeot Boxer, Citroen Jumper, Fiat Ducato, and Vauxhall Movano. The company has the capacity to convert hundreds of vehicles at any one time at its sites in Europe.

Osman Boyner, founder of BEDEO, stated that the RE-100 creates a new category of hybrid that meets market needs and accelerates transport decarbonisation. The vehicle can operate in two modes of power – electric and diesel – but with BEDEO technology, it cannot be operated as diesel within controlled low emissions zones, unless in an emergency.
